About CAP:
Council of Organizations and Others For Education About Parochiaid (CAP) is organized to provide education on the following subjects: the preservation of religious liberty; the separation of church and state; and the importance of public education in a democracy. The Council also educates the public regarding the risks of granting governmental aid to nonpublic schools in Michigan.
CAP was founded in the 1970's when a coalition of civil rights, education, religious, and civic organizations joined with other individuals to educate the public regarding a voucher ballot proposal. When this issue was soundly defeated, the organization remained together. Years later, CAP played a seminal role in the public education effort that was responsible for defeating the voucher proposal on the 2000 ballot.
CAP is a non-profit 501 (c) (4) organization supported by contributions from member organizations and individuals.
